Printre primele încercări ale arhitectului Paul SMĂRĂNDESCU de a aborda stilul Neoromânesc, clădirea de colț proiectată pentru maiorul IONESCU prezintă doar câteva elemente stilistice notabile: arce și pilaștri de proporții masive, parapeți decorați cu ocnițe și copertine grele cu console din lemn.

Ancadramentele epurate sunt coerente cu volumul auster al imobilului. Toate elementele de vocabular par că se desprind cu greutate de sol, volumul fiind mai degrabă masiv decât elegant. 

Logia care marchează coțul adaugă profunzime fațadelor, altfel destul de plane. Profilatura cornișei, epurată la rândul ei, nu iese în evidență, lăsând fațada să fie percepută în două registre: soclul care cuprinde ferestrele unui demisol înalt și registrul superior, compus din parter și etaj.

Deși nu dă semne de probleme structurale, imobilul așteaptă vremuri mai bune, în care să se bucure de grija și respectul pe care le merită.

Among architect Paul SMĂRĂNDESCU’s first attempts to approach the Neoromanian style, the corner building designed for Major IONESCU has only a few notable stylistic elements: arches and pilasters of massive proportions, parapets decorated with niches and the heavy wooden canopies and supports.

The cleansed window frames are coherent with the austere volume of the building. All of the vocabulary elements seem to barely part with the ground, as the volume is more massive than elegant.

The loggia that marks the corner adds depth to the otherwise flat façades.

The cornice profile, cleansed itself, does not stand out, leaving the façade to be perceived in two registries: the base, containing the demi-basement windows and the upper registry, containing the ground floor and the upper floor.

Although the villa doesn’t show signs of structural fatigue, it waits for better times, in which to enjoy the care and respect it deserves.
