Blocul SMĂRĂNDESCU este una dintre puținele lucrări ale arhitectului realizată integral în limbajul Art Deco / Modernist. Art Deco-ul este anunțat de cei patru parapeți din capetele bovindourilor laterale și de balconul celui de-al optulea etaj, dar este invocat răspicat de cele trei antene-paratrăznet care încununează zona mediană a fațadei.

Liniile orizontale ale parapeților de la etajele 2-5 sunt întărite de logiile etajelor 6 și 7, de asemenea dezvoltate pe orizontală. Umbrele puternice pe care acestea le introduc în compoziția fațadei contribuie simțitor la imaginea Modernistă a imobilului.

Având în vedere parcursul stilistic al arhitecturii sale, probabil că Paul SMĂRĂNDESCU, dacă nu s-ar fi stins din viață atât de devreme, ar fi continuat un repertoriu Modernist variat și de foarte bună calitate.

The Smărăndescu Building is one of the few of the architects’ works modeled entirely within an Art Deco / Modernist language. The Art Deco style is announced by the four parapets at the extremities of the side bow windows and by the 8th floor balcony, but it is sung out loud by the three lightning-rod-antennas that crown the middle part of the façade.

The horizontal lines of the parapets on floors 2 through 5 are strengthened by the horizontal loggias on the 6th and 7th floors. The powerful shadows that these introduce into the composition of the façade have a meaningful contribution to the buildings’ Modernist image.

Observing the stylistic path of his architecture, had he not passed away so soon, Paul SMĂRĂNDESCU would have most lightly continued with a varied and valuable Modernist repertory.
